The main spot where the kite camp is, Ras Al Hadd Lagoon, is one of the best flat water kite spots in all of Oman. With waist deep water throughout, it's a safe place for beginners to learn, as well as being a favourite spot for more advanced flat water lovers and freestyle riders. Twin tips are ideal while riding at the lagoon. Nearby, there are 5 other kite spots that you'll have the chance to ride (depending on which safari itinerary you pick), all of which offer their own special mix of conditions. You'll have the chance to visit spots like Asyla, Salties, Saqla, Bar al Hikman and Shrimpies (Sugar Dunes). Surfboard riding is one of the best ways of experiencing these spots. The likes of Ras Al Had Barracudas is a perfect spot for novice wave riders to test out their skills on the small, clean breaks, while 30 kilometers away at Asyla you'll have the chance to rip around at Oman's longest point break with waves up to 4 meters. The high season for kitesurfing in Oman runs from April until September, during which time the wind blows 20-30 knots on the majority of days. The weather is pretty hot during this time; you can expect averages of 35 degrees during the day and 30 degrees at night during the summer months. Thanks to the warm weather, you won't need a wetsuit.

The Destination

Just 2.5 hours away from the bustling capital, Muscat, the village of Ras Al Hadd is like another world. The sandy beaches are known throughout the country as breeding grounds for the turtles that swim in the Arabian Sea. Out on the water, dolphins are a common sight; you might even get to share your session with a pod if you're lucky. With beautiful breaks out on the sea and mirror flat lagoons inside, the area is a fantastic spot not just for kitesurfing, but also for SUPing, surfing, and wildlife spotting. By many people's standards, Oman is an unusual destination for a kitesurfing holiday. Kiteboarding is a fairly new sport to reach this part of the world, and kite tourism is in its infancy here- the beauty of which is that anyone who visits will likely have the gorgeous, windswept beaches all to themselves.

The Experience

During the safaris, guests will have the chance to visit the flat water paradise at the Bar Al Hikman Lagoon, the beautiful beach break at Shrimpies Sugar Dunes, the hidden wave spot at Masirah Island, and more. You'll have the freedom and flexibility to choose where you want to kite each day. The crew at Watersports Oman know this part of the coastline like the back of their hand, so everyone who joins for this experience is guaranteed a real adventure- as seen through the eyes of a local. Note: discounts are available when you choose to take part for more than 1 night.

Wave Riding & Excursions

Thanks to the diverse mix of spots that the safari visits, you'll have the chance to ride in a mix of conditions- from the flat water lagoon at Ras Al Hadd to the plethora of amazing wave spots out on the open sea. Even if you've never ridden a strapless surf board before, this is a perfect opportunity to try something new. You'll be shown a variety of spots: beach breaks, point breaks, flat water, small waves, big waves, places to SUP, surf, and kitesurf.

Self camping option

If you fancy taking the camping experience into your own hands, you're welcome to use your own tents and camping equipment. In such a case, you won't be subject to paying the full fee; you'll just pay for whatever elements you want to avail of, for example: a small fixed fee to join the safari, optional fees to use the toilets, showers, and food & drink.

Getting There

Oman is easily accessible from Central Europe, with flights taking an average of 5-6 hours direct to Muscat. From there, our driver will pick you up directly from the airport and bring you to our kite camp base at Ras Al Hadd (though if you fancy making a road trip out of it, you can also choose to drive yourself in a rental car). The journey by road takes about 2 and a half hours.

Accommodation

During the safari, you'll be staying in heavy duty storm proof tents right on the beach at the kite spot. Not only are the tents wind and weather proof, they're also made of black-out material which means you can sleep in peace even if it's already bright outside. The tents are equipped with comfortable 2 person mattresses and pillows.
