With flat, shallow water in the bay and waves near the channel, Sigri Surf/Kite offers a little bit of something for everyone! The Greek Meltemi Winds blow nearly every day from about mid-May to mid-September. These thermal winds originate in the Black Sea and are accelerated by a thermal effect and the mountains surrounding the island. Sigri is situated directly in the wind zone and both North and South winds blow through the village making Sigri a kiteable spot all year round. The launching area is on the right hand side of our surfcenter. In this 50 meter wide area the wind is side-offshore and therefore a little gusty. But directly in front of our center the wind blows cross-offshore making the water butter flat! We know how much advanced riders love our spot, but keep in mind this area is only available for use by our clients. We offer daily safaris to a nearby spot called Kite Beach. Only about 1.5 km south of Sigri, the huge beach, shallow waters, and perfect side-onshore wind makes it an ideal location for teaching kiteboarding. Insuring the safety of our clients, we always have an extra instructor on location who is in charge of the rescue boat.

The Destination

Imagine yourself enjoying a pristine beach in Greece, but like 40 years ago. Sigri is a small fishing village near the western tip of Lesbos Island. Often called the land that time forgot, the town has quaint rooms, delicious restaurants with inexpensive fish, and the best part is the wind blows year round. Bonus points because Sigiri is home to an 18th century Turkish castle! Important to know: Unfortunately, there is no ATM or bank in Sigri so if you need money you have to go to Eressos, which is about 30 minutes away by car or you can take the bus. Furthermore, there is no petrol station in Sigri the next one is in Antissa (20 minutes by car).

The Experience

To make your life easier and more enjoyable, Sigri Surf/Kite acts as a general travel agent for the entire destination. Not only do we manage the professional Kitesurf/Windsurf Center, we also handle all accommodation bookings, transfers and rental cars for all direct bookings and travel agents.

The Kite & Surf Center

Our surf centre is situated at the north end of Sigri bay. We have an office, a small bike rental shop, a bar with free internet, a huge sun terrace, shower, bathroom, and different options for equipment storage (e.g. windsurf sails, boards and kite storage). We have brand new 2018 equipment. As an added bonus for your safety, we have two rescue boats on hand.

At the surf bar we have a delicious range of snacks and drinks that you can feel free to enjoy on the sun loungers.

In case there is no wind, we offer free SUP boards and bikes for a small fee. Sigri offers some really nice bike routes for skilled riders and novices alike. We also organize SUP Safaris to the picturesque beaches round Sigri.

Our kite storage prices include daily safaris to flatwater or wave spots, rescue, use of sunbeds, toilets, showers, and the infrastructure of the center.

We treat our guests like friends and we always organize group outings to restaurants, cocktail parties, and pool parties.

Other Things to do on Lesbos
  • Skala Eressos - About half an hour from Sigri, is Skala Eressos, the most organized tourist resort with a famous two kilometer long beach, clear blue waters and sand. Quaint cafes, restaurants trimmed with local delicacies and elegant rule-based bars on wooden platforms in a short distance from the crystal waters of the sea promise peace and moments of intense fun. Also visit the Tsichlionta River Beach. Eressos is the home town of the Tenth Muse, Sappho, the great representative of lyric poetry (7th century).

  • Molivos - You get to the castle if you walk on the very nice paved lanes. Entry into the Kastro is only 2€ per person. On the way to the castle you can do some shopping or drink a coffee in one of the coffee bars. Molivos has got very nice shops which sell souveniers and typical Greek food. The kastro is very old and comes from Byzantine time and was already developed in the 14th century. On the top of the hill you have a fantastic view above the roofs of Molivos and on the Aegean sea till Turkey. If you fancy doing some shopping or if you are interested in history, this will be the perfect place for you.

  • Fossilized Woods Museum - The museum of natural history of the fossilized wood was founded in 1994. The museum has his seat in the center of Sigri The museum is very modern and 1600qm. It ist he first museum for natural history which the Greek state founded. Moreover, there is also a small coffee shop which sells next to coffees and drinks also traditional food from the region, like wine from the area, jam, and handmade jewellery!

  • Gavatas - In the west of Lesbos is the small fishing village Gavatas, which is not very touristic but worth visiting. Gavatas has got a very attractive harbor which got popular with the very beautiful small chapel called "Panagia Gorgona"(mermaid).

  • Liota - Directly on the street to Gavatas there is a turning to Liota. This delicious and very typical Greek restaurant is about 30 minutes away from Sigri. There you sit under a huge tree and can it traditional Greek food, like lamb chops, cheese rolls, the best tsaziki, feta saganaki, Greek sausages, Greek salad etc. And to top it all the restaurant is not only very delicious it is also very cheap. And the atmosphere is just unique.
